Castiglioni Delle Stiviere.
This project, set on a historically significant plot in Italy that once served as a Cold War-era military base, focuses on architectural conservation and adaptive reuse. The existing cluster of decaying masses forms an introverted arrangement around a central courtyard, symbolizing both the spatial and contextual importance of the site. The courtyard, in its deteriorating state, highlights the historical significance of the territory.
The project emphasizes the dynamic relationship between architecture and territoriality, where space becomes a fluid product of socio-economic vibrancy. The architecture is designed to be a platform for this activity, with self-sufficient economic spaces created through urban gardening. These gardens symbolize collective, productive territories that respond to the surrounding environment.
Green roofs integrate the architecture with the landscape, respecting the inevitability of time and nature’s impact on the site. Circulation within the project remains fluid, reinforcing the sense of dynamism and adaptability. The broken architecture and the vibrancy of productive socio-economic spaces blend to create a continuously evolving, dynamic territory.
